Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
This and this. I sympathize with people who don't like ponies on the internet right now, I really do. I understand that when you hate something, it's annoying to see it literally everywhere, but you just have to deal. We all have to in one form or another. Trust me, it gets better when you make an effort not to be angry about it.
i do try, i really do. i have calmed down a lot in the past couple of years. i don't get angry nearly as quickly as i used to, but then something happens like asking why we care about a new season of MLP, as though i'm some sort of island in the middle of an ocean, where hundreds of miles away, there is the MLP fandom, when in reality, the fandom is in fact the ocean surrounding me. i put up with hundreds of images of Rainbow Dash and Rarity and Spike and people trying to unnaturally femininely defend this fandom from the haters who are just SO VICIOUS AND HEARTLESS and HATE THIS SHOW JUST BECAUSE IT'S FOR GIRLS (and not because, you know, it sucks) WHEN GUYS CAN LIKE LITTLE CHEERLEADER PRINCESS PONY BABBLING TOO!!!!! before i finally snap and make another post like this. it's not like i become feral and engage myself in a hunt every time i see something i don't like. a post like mine is (probably since the start of season 2) in the making. this is spreading like a virus, and i'm one of about four people i know who are immune to it. (so save it, all you fans who feel victimized by my words on the internet and the ARMIES of haters after your cartoons.)
i'm used to dealing with situations where nobody agrees with me. modern culture is full of them. every aspect of daily life for people being another thing i don't like, but when it comes down to people militarily defending cartoon ponies with awful argument after awful argument (see above), it's just too much, and i feel like i have to say something. where does this cycle of ponies and defensive obsession with them stop?
I hear ya. Some of the fans are very obnoxious about defending a silly little cartoon. This even annoys me even though I like the show, so I've stopped associating myself with the fandom.
I think if it was something else that was more "socially accepted," there wouldn't be nearly as much defensiveness over it. People think that, because it's a show meant for little girls, they have to defend themselves from every negative comment and make some kind of stand for "gender equality." It's just a cartoon, people. Stop taking it so seriously! ![]()

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I understand you 36IStillLikeSpyro36, but remember that not all people are the same. It is not fault of mlpfim itself, it is fault of the people who are obsessed with the show too much. You would like to stop this show, but what about those good fans, that don't do all the crap like pony cosplays etc? (btw those cosplays are disliked even on mlpforum) You would be happy if it stopped, those obsessed fans may disappear, but what about the good fans who enjoy the show?
I remember... from school... we had lesson in social science about religion and you know what? 90% of the class was like "bleh, that crap again". I asked myself Why did they do that? Then I remembered how is religion presented in media and how bad reputation it has from history. They remember only those bad things like terrorism, fighting priests on TV, burning people etc. They don't know that most of the bad things has nothing to do with religion. They don't know the good and kind part (so that they don't know that many people (those evil) aren't christians, even if they call themselves (I could also call myself chinese god of fun, but am I?)). They would also like to let religion disappear, but what about those good people? And would it solve anything? back to topic...
I don't want to argue. Maybe you already know it and just meant something differend, but I just wanted to make sure you know that there is also the better part of the community and that it shouldn't just stop because of the worse part.I hope I didn't upset you, I am not good in debating
i agree; you and some others here aren't the type i mean. there is something distinct between people like you and the other group, but i can't place what it is exactly; i know what i mean. people like you who like MLP (you don't seem like the type, but okay,) should be allowed to watch it. i think there is something very wrong with this show, but if it doesn't have that effect on you, then it's not much of a problem. i'm more concerned about the fandom than cartoons though. few of my problems come from MLP itself.
i also noticed something similar with religion. the public opinion bothers me with that, too. but while you make a good point with how similarly they work, i can't help but point out that matters of preference for cartoon ponies and matters of spirituality/philosophies work differently.

I learned nothing from your post. Just sayin'. Displeased an upset mean nearly the same thing to me. And about the 'ignore the fandom junk bit', read below.
Guys. Bronies and Haters. You both. Are. Just. Awful.
Now can we please just move on something or else or let this thread die already? We've had this discussion about a 100 times before.

There's nothing wrong with Bronies. I'm pretty sure not all bronies are 'the annoying ones'. After all, I consider myself a brony but I've only watched a few episodes of the show. I like it, which is why I consider myself a brony, but I don't make 'pony posts', I'm not obsessed with pony image macros, I don't care much for any of the fan art but I don't get annoyed by it, I ignore it. People have a right to do what they want on the internet, and I won't stop them. Some people are vigilant *bleep*s about it who shouldn't be doing what they're doing, sure, but that doesn't mean that people should be allowed to generalise the whole group and pretend that they're all like that. It's like fans of other things... I'm a regular user of Twitter, so every day I encounter people obsessed with Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and One Direction... perhaps more often than I see 'annoying bronies'. What do I do? I don't care. People can choose to like what they want and say what they want, and as much as I don't like Justin Bieber or 1D, I'm not going to stop these people...
Okay, that was kind of a bad example, but hopefully you understand my point.
* sigh *Yes, that is a full comment.

There's always going to be a show that people like despite the fact that's they're not in the ideal target audience, and it's always going to create a stir.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I agree with a lot of the statements on here saying that a lot of us bronies are annoying about the show and obsess over the characters and cosplay all the time. I thankfully am not one of those obsessive brony freaks, I watch the show and enjoy it and that's it. I am not posting this to defend the show, if people don't like it, they don't like it, they shouldn't be yelled at or hated just because they don't like something other people do. It's called variety and opinions, everyone has them and I don't force MLP down someone's throat if they don't wanna watch it. People are entitled to their opinions and views and I accept that. So people on here who aren't fans of the show, I say continue with your statements, I am in no way offended by any of it.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
So since this thread got revived I decided to look up some info on Season 3. Heres what I found so far.
- Actual plot/recurring villains incoming
- Leaked backgrounds of ruined Ponyville
- Scootaloo episode, finally
- More Canterlot + new city
- Possible Weird Al cameo
- John De Lancie back in some capacity
- Zecora gets her biggest role yet
- Tons of songs, about one per episode
- return of Trixie (the hint was obvious, maybe TOO obvious => troll)
- movie after 3rd season
Ok the songs every episode is going to be repetitive after awhile. Still It would be nice to see some development with Zecora given how she gets put in a backburner more than a repetitive NieR sidequests.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I'm curious, what is it about this show that appeals so much to you "bronys"? I watched some of it myself and sure it had good animation, it was cute and well produced but I can just think of allot more shows (even children's cartoons) that would appeal to me as an adult male more than MLP.

Same reason why Kirby games or Winnie the Pooh are so well liked. Its charm. The animation is nice and the voice acting isn't "Stick led at your ears" bad like other Hasbro cartoons.
Now is it good enough to warrant a huge fanbase who spouts le Reddit memes all day thinking its funny? Not really. Least IMO. Its not OMGZ the best cartoon ever. I can name 20 better cartoons on the top of my head that are better than this.
Another possible reason could be that western animation fans could be suffering from "Sci-fi" syndrome. There hasn't been any good cartoons out these days so there willing to latch onto anything thats remotely decent and call it a masterpiece. With Sci fi fans there hasn't been another good sci-fi show since Bablylon 5 ended. I consider Babylon 5 to be the last truly good sci-fi on television until Firefly came along. That was a ten-year gap. Now a days sci-fi fans would latch onto *bleep* like Falling Skies or Battlestar Galatica. I know where you think I'm going with this, because anytime someone bashes the new Galactica series they think it's because of the decision to change the character of Starbuck into a woman. I never even bothered to compare the re-envisioned series to the old one, but I'll play that game for now. Frankly I don't care what they did with Starbuck because it could only have been an improvement. News flash, fanboys: The new series sucks like an Aaron Spelling vampire drama, and the old show sucked too. Don't even send me your putrid, whining responses about how it was a sweeping, epic space opera with complex characters and compelling stories. It was a kitchy, badly-scripted mess of a series that played more like a sitcom than a drama, with such award-worthy plots as the Cowboy Cylon and the planet of Nazi Terrans. Just think about it real hard before you pick a fight on this score, because I can crack out tapes of Galactica 1980 if you really want to rumble. Yeah, Galactica 1980, where the ship finally reaches Earth and the crew is completely flummoxed by common modern annoyances like traffic jams. "They must be excellent pilots to be able to stay in formation at such slow speeds."
I guess this has come up as a an off topic. I mean really most people hate the show because of the fandom keeps spawning memes all over the place. But I never saw it a reason to hate the show itself. Its like hating cats and owls because people keep posting lolz cats pictures all over the place. Or denouncing Bill Cosby because Carlos Mencia steals all his jokes.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I'm not really sure were you were going with the whole sci-fi argument there but I can understand what you mean about the show being charming to certain people. I still find it bewildering how popular it is though conidering what it is.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
the charm on MLP seems false, more than false to me. "false" is a nice word for it. Winnie the Pooh was mentioned in there; the charm is sincere and friendly. the charm on MLP is charming because they try to make it charming. nothing in anything i've seen on that show seems heartfelt to me. (yes, i actually tried out the show before.) it's more of a hypnotic charm, taking everything over the top on purpose for the sake of taking charm over the top. every situation, every bit of dialogue, even their giant eyes, is superficially cute with nothing under the surface. that's what i hate about the show itself. Pooh didn't need giant eyes and high-pitched ponies to be charming.

Oooh, a pony thread. Got into the show about a year ago, maybe earlier. Unsure how I missed this thread in the past.
Aside from just enjoying talking about the show, I do enjoy drawing MLP stuff, writing fanfiction, and RPing.
Haven't drawn too much as I only started drawing in general about two months ago, but here is some of it. Was just thinking about how they would look if they were still themselves, but not ponies.

P.S. Rainbow Dash is best pony.

least make the images into links. That way we don't have to scroll further
